Insurance industry says earthquakes are 'acts of God'. BBC: 'New Zealand earthquake: 65 dead in Christchurch'. What's in a name, like Christchurch? Nothing but wishful thinking?... 'for Christ's sake'? Also, a maximum card from New Zealand, otherwise a beautiful country, whose green scenery you should remember from 'Lord of the Rings' movies.

Read from BBC:
'New Zealand earthquake: 65 dead in Christchurch'

Maximum card/ maxicard/ dorincard from New Zealand.

Christchurch, under assault from the TeCtonic Knights?

If you will never come around to reading the whole article about New Zealand, at least read this, will you? :)
"New Zealand is an island country in the south-western Pacific Ocean comprising two main landmasses (the North Island and the South Island) and numerous smaller islands, most notably Stewart Island/Rakiura and the Chatham Islands. The indigenous Māori name for New Zealand is Aotearoa, commonly translated as land of the long white cloud. The Realm of New Zealand also includes Tokelau; the Cook Islands and Niue (self-governing but in free association); and the Ross Dependency, New Zealand's territorial claim in Antarctica.
New Zealand is notable for its geographic isolation: it is situated about 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) southeast of Australia across the Tasman Sea, and its closest neighbours to the north are the Pacific Islands of New CaledoniaFiji and Tonga
The country's sharp mountain peaks owe much to the earthquakes and volcanic activity caused by the clashing Pacific and Indo-Australian Plates
The climate is mild and temperate and most of the landscape is covered by tussock grass or forests of podocarpkauri or southern beech
During its long isolation New Zealand developed a distinctive fauna dominated by birds, a number of which became extinct after the arrival of humans and introduced mammals."

Mitt Romney:
"Willard Mitt Romney (born March 12, 1947) is an American businessman, and a Republican who was the 70th Governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007, was a candidate in the 2008 U.S. presidential election, and is a likely candidate in the 2012 presidential election."

Geopolitical Journey, Part 7: Poland | STRATFOR - and a horse maximum card from Poland

Geopolitical Journey, Part 7: Poland | STRATFOR

I like very much not only WHAT George Friedman has to say, but HOW he says it.
"Le style c'est l'homme".
Meaningful and enjoyable reading! :)

========================================================
This is the only maximum card that I have, so far, from Poland. But there are so many more interesting Polish stamps, postmarks and postcards that could be used to create interesting  maxicards...:)
Is it the same breed of horse on the stamp and on the postcard? I don't know. Do you? Only an expert could say. Anyway, I like it as it is, even if there might be different breeds. What I wouldn't like, though, would be if the breeds are clearly VERY different - then it would look awkward. :)

Vive La France! Fragment from http://www.squidoo.com/dorincard, translated into French

This is the chosen fragment, in English:

Maximaphily

this lens's photo
Maximaphily is a branch of philately, or stamp collecting, that means collecting maximum cards.
I do NOT make a strict distinction between Philately and Stamp Collecting, despite "academic belief" that there is.  I'll detail that in another post.
Generally, a maximum card is a postcard, with a stamp and a postmark on the picture side. Ideally, all these 3 elements should be concordant, but not identical.

Anybody can collect them, just like collecting simple stamps. But that's too passive.
The fun and challenge are in CREATING YOUR OWN maximum cards! Then you can exchange some with partners/friends from around the world!
I do that, and it's very interesting! :)

The traditional way is to comply with the rules of FIP (International Philatelic Federation). http://www.maximaphily.info
The non-traditional way, as I call it, is to follow nobody's rules! Unless YOU want it, of course.
I call DORINCARD any postcard that was personalized by adding a stamp and a postmark, on the picture side of the postcard. Traditional way, or not. :)

Maximaphilie
Contribute a better translationHere, Eric Contesse kindly gave a better translation:[Please visit Eric's blog, very informative, interesting, in French and English: http://timbredujura.blogspot.com/ ]"Bonjour Dorin,
here is an exact version in French of your post :

Joint-issue stamps France-Romania about "Constantin Brâncuşi (Romanian pronunciation: [konstanˈtin brɨnˈkuʃʲ]; February 19, 1876 – March 16, 1957) was an internationally renowned Romanian sculptor whose works, which blend simplicity and sophistication, led the way for numerous modernist sculptors."

These are from Monaco, not France, but they still are in the francophone and francophil world, n'est-ce pas? :)

Merci, Bartholdy et France! "Je me souviens..."

"France is a member state of the European Union, the largest one by area. It is also the third largest in Europe behind Russia and Ukraine. It would be second if its extra-European territories like French Guiana were included. France has been a major power for several centuries with strong economic, cultural, military and political influence. During the 17th and 18th centuries, France colonised great parts of North America; during the 19th and early 20th centuries, France built the second largest empire of the time, including large portions of NorthWest and Central AfricaSoutheast Asia, and many Pacific islands."

BOARD OF DIRECTORS, CEOs, ASSes - I could make this into dorincard kit#3.

This is a postcard available commercially, as you can see from the backside.
It's supposed to be a visual metaphor, is it not?
Leaders of all sorts come in all types, colors and values. Some are good, some are bad.
Your preferred negative example of a leader might deserve an AVATAR like an ass (or mule?) from the postcard.

Are those entities in the above image...asses (donkeys)? Mules? Horses? Zebras?
Don't ass-ume that you can horse around, walk on zebras and kick ass - it may be hazardous.
"Mules are generally less tolerant towards dogs than horses are.[citation needed] They are also capable of striking out with any of their hooves in any direction, even sideways if needed.[citation needed]

Mules exhibit a higher cognitive intelligence than their parent species - horses and donkeys. This is believed to be the result of hybrid vigour, similar to how mules acquire greater height and endurance than either parent. [8]
Mules are highly intelligent. They tend to be curious by nature. A mule generally will not let the rider put it in harm's way. However, the stereotype of the mule as being stubborn is somewhat unfair and inaccurate."

I hope you know an ass when you see it. I mean a donkey.
But do you know the difference between all of them, especially between a mule and a hinny?
[Can't you go to wikipedia.org by yourself? Why am I doing this?]

Splendid Arabian Purebred Horses: Ras-Al-Khaima stamps

This is a wonderful stamp series of artful (not artsy-fartsy) drawings of horses. I got the 5 lower denominations while I was living in Romania. Then, in 1973 I traveled thru Hungary to GDR, so I bought from Magyarorszag the full series of 6 and the gorgeous souvenir sheet :). I still love this series...
So what if it's a CTO (canceled-to-order)? To me it means that I have to pay only 25% of the mint price, in general. The appetite for general culture was ignited and maintained thru affordable philatelic stamps, at least in my case. :)

In this website http://www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090929/ART/709289966/1239/LIFE
I have posted this:
"I have enjoyed philately, in general, and the stamps from the Emirates, in particular, for a long time.
Many condemned the excessive number of stamp issues in the 70s. But I thought: why don't you, the other countries, issue stamps as beautiful and interesting as those from the Emirates? As for quantity, I buy only what I want and can afford. "According to my calculations, the problem doesn't exist". Stamp collectors are not (or shouldn't be) addicted to buying EVERY stamp issue. Choose, and focus on what YOU want.
The future of philately is in collecting creatively, not just passively. Explore my websites to see how we create our own stamps, in some countries. Consider, also, maximaphily. I love it! The most creative branch of philately.
There's good and bad everywhere, so best wishes to all the good people from the Arab countries! :)

"Dorincard: Blogger Dorin C is a stamp and postcard fanatic, and luckily he's more than pleased to write prolifically and charmingly about his obsession. He has a particular bent for stamps with wild mammals on them, but his blog demonstrates an affinity for stamps of all forms and backgrounds, as long as they offer a special narrative that's worth sharing with his readers.
