"Infrared thermography, thermal imaging, and thermal video are examples of infrared imaging science. Thermal imaging cameras detect radiation in the infrared range of the electromagnetic spectrum (roughly 9000–14,000 nanometers or 9–14 µm) and produce images of that radiation, called thermograms. Since infrared radiation is emitted by all objects above absolute zero according to the black body radiation law [MY NOTE: no, it's not about African-Americans... "A black body is an idealized physical body"...:)..."that absorbs all incident electromagnetic radiation." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_body], thermography makes it possible to see one's environment with or without visible illumination. The amount of radiation emitted by an object increases with temperature; therefore, thermography allows one to see variations in temperature. When viewed through a thermal imaging camera, warm objects stand out well against cooler backgrounds; humans and other warm-blooded animals become easily visible against the environment, day or night. As a result, thermography is particularly useful to military and other users of surveillance cameras."
"Difference between infrared film and thermography
IR film is sensitive to infrared (IR) radiation in the 250°C to 500°C range, while the range of thermography is approximately -50°C to over 2,000°C. So, for an IR film to show something, it must be over 250°C or be reflecting infrared radiation from something that is at least that hot. Night vision infrared devices image in the near-infrared, just beyond the visual spectrum, and can see emitted or reflected near-infrared in complete visual darkness. Starlight-type night vision devices generally only magnify ambient light."
"A power strip (also known as an extension block, power board, plug board and by many other variations) is a block of electrical sockets that attaches to the end of a flexible cable (typically with a mains plug on the other end), allowing multiple electrical devices to be powered from a single electrical socket. Power strips are often used when many electrical devices are in proximity, such as for audio/video and computer systems. Power strips often include a circuit breaker to safely limit the electric current flowing through them."
Visual metaphor: an underlying image of some relationships:
Thermogram of a snake wrapped around a human arm. |
Much of a person's energy is radiated away in the form of infrared light. Some materials are transparent in the infrared, while opaque to visible light, as is the plastic bag in this infrared image (bottom). Other materials are transparent to visible light, while opaque or reflective in the infrared, noticeable by darkness of the man's glasses. |

I never knew my body radiated so much heat!
RED HAT
Red hat, I am lonesome.
Red hat, are you free?
Red hat, please consider
Coming home with me.
I need a companion,
One who’ll warm my head;
I think you’ll do nicely,
Hat of brilliant red.
You’re the warmest color,
Not like blue or green—
Red hat at the vendor’s,
Red hat, you’re my queen.
