Q is for QUAGGA, my entry for today at ABC WEDNESDAY MEME. I show you a MAXICARD from VENDA (ex-bantustan in the REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA) with "The plains zebra (Equus quagga, formerly Equus burchelli), also known as the common zebra or Burchell's zebra" - Wikipedia. Also, zebra is featured in Botswana's coat of arms. Drought is severe in Botswana, so "In [RAIN] we trust", I guess...[RAIN] is the official country motto, and the currency name

The two supporters are zebras, the dexter zebra holds an ivory tusk; representative of Botswana's former ivory trade. The sinister zebra holds an ear of sorghum an important crop in the country. I show you my MAXIMUM CARD / MAXICARD / DORINCARD with that bird .

"The ʻōhiʻa lehua[2] (Metrosideros polymorpha) is a species of flowering evergreentree in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae, that is endemic to the six largest islands of Hawaiʻi. It is a highly variable tree, being 20–25 m (66–82 ft) tall in favorable situations, and much smaller when growing in boggy soils or on basalt. It produces a brilliant display of flowers, made up of a mass of stamens, which can range from fiery red to yellow. Many native Hawaiian traditions refer to the tree and the forests it forms as sacred to Pele [MY NOTE: no, not the Brazilian legendary football/soccer player http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pel%C3%A9], the volcano goddess, and to Laka, the goddess of hula."

"The ʻApapane (Himatione sanguinea) is a species of finch in the Hawaiian honeycreepersubfamily, Drepanidinae, that is endemic to Hawaii. The bright crimson feathers of the ʻApapanewere once used to adorn the ʻahuʻula (capes), mahiole (helmets), and nā lei hulu (feather leis) ofaliʻi (Hawaiian nobility). ʻApapane form small flocks when foraging through the canopies of ʻōhiʻa lehua (Metrosideros polymorpha) trees, drinking nectar from the flowers and simultaneouslypollinating them. They never forage on the forest floor. When flowering of ʻōhiʻa is low and if not part of a flock, ʻApapane will be chased away from flowers by more aggressive competing birds such as the ʻĀkohekohe and ʻiʻiwi."

BBC News - Boxing ex-world champion Joe Frazier dies

"Joseph William "Joe" Frazier (January 12, 1944 – November 7, 2011[1]), also known asSmokin' Joe, was an Olympic and Undisputed World Heavyweight boxing champion, whose professional career lasted from 1965 to 1976, with a one-fight comeback in 1981.
Frazier emerged as the top contender in the late 1960s, defeating opponents that included Jerry QuarryOscar BonavenaBuster MathisEddie MachenDoug JonesGeorge Chuvalo andJimmy Ellis en route to becoming undisputed heavyweight champion in 1970, and followed up by defeating Muhammad Ali on points in the highly-anticipated "Fight of the Century" in 1971. Two years later Frazier lost his title when he was knocked out by George Foreman. He fought on, beating Joe Bugner, losing a rematch to Ali, and beating Quarry and Ellis again.
Frazier's last world title challenge came in 1975, but he was beaten by Ali in their brutal rubbermatch. He retired in 1976 following a second loss to Foreman. He made a comeback in 1981, fighting just once, before retiring for good. The International Boxing Research Organization (IBRO) rates Frazier among the ten greatest heavyweights of all time.[2] He is an inductee of both the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.
Frazier's style was often compared to that of Henry Armstrong and occasionally Rocky Marciano. He was dependent on bobbing, weaving, grunting, snorting as he grimaced with all out aggression wearing down his opponents with relentless pressure. His best known punch was a powerful left hook, which accounted for most of his knockouts."

Top 30 Stamp Collecting Blogs, by guidetoartschools.com

#2:
"Dorincard: Blogger Dorin C is a stamp and postcard fanatic, and luckily he's more than pleased to write prolifically and charmingly about his obsession. He has a particular bent for stamps with wild mammals on them, but his blog demonstrates an affinity for stamps of all forms and backgrounds, as long as they offer a special narrative that's worth sharing with his readers.

Postcards and stamps, mainly featuring mammals and birds but Dorincard also has other creations
and interests he likes to share.
His enthusiasm for Maximum cards (a postcard and a similar themed stamps sent through the
    postal system) shines through.
He shows how he gets the right card, stamp and postmark together.
Visiting his site you will also learn things about the natural world told with a dry sense of humour,

Topical and informative both for the enthusiast and casual visitor.
