The Great Tech War Of 2012 | Fast Company

The Great Tech War Of 2012 | Fast Company

I saw recently a joke, in which Giant Companies like the ones above were bragging: "I know how to find anything"...""I know what everybody likes"...etc.
Then the Electric Power Company said:"Keep talking [, stitches!]..."
:)

Abbott's Booby (Papasula abbotti) WWF MAXICARDS from CHRISTMAS ISLAND, in the Indian Ocean

"Abbott’s Booby (Papasula abbotti) is a large endangered seabird of the gannet family, Sulidae. Found normally only on and around Christmas Island (an Australian territory in the eastern Indian Ocean), it is the sole living member of the monotypic genus Papasula. This species is named for William Louis Abbott who discovered it on Assumption Island in 1892". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbott%27s_Booby. [MY NOTE] He made the correct Assumption that this was a new species to science.
"Much of the breeding habitat of the Abbott’s Booby was destroyed by phosphate mining in the 1960s and 1970s[5] and it is classified as Endangered. The population is estimated to be about 3000 birds and decreasing. On Christmas Island, threats include cyclones, degradation of breeding habitat and Yellow Crazy Ants. Offshore potential threats are overfishing and marine pollution."

"Christmas Island is of immense value as it was uninhabited until the late 19th century, so many unique species of fauna and flora exist which have evolved independently of human interference. Two-thirds of the island has been declared a National Park which is managed by the Australian Department of Environment and Heritage through Parks Australia."

"The annual red crab mass migration (around 100 million animals) to the sea to spawn has been called one of the wonders of the natural world[35] and takes place each year around November; after the start of the wet season and in synchronisation with the cycle of the moon."

A railway powerhouse, #1 in the world?
"An 18 km standard gauge railway from Flying Fish Cove to the phosphate mine was constructed in 1914. It was closed in December 1987, when the Australian Government closed the mine, but remains largely intact. Because of its very small population size [1,403], Christmas Island has the longest railway per capita in the world, more than 100 times of the average length."

You saw, in my MAXICARDS above, glimpses of the blue skies of Christmas Island - it's Christmas every day!

"China Listeni/ˈnə/ (Chinese中国/中华pinyinZhōngguó/Zhōnghuá; see also Names of China), officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is the most populous state in the world, withover 1.3 billion citizens. Located in East Asia, the country covers approximately 9.6 million square kilometres (3.7 million square miles). It is the world's second-largest country by land area,[12] and the third- or fourth-largest in total area, depending on the definition of total area.[13]
The People's Republic of China is a single-party state governed by the Communist Party of China (CPC).[14] The PRC exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces, five autonomous regions, four directly-controlled municipalities (BeijingTianjinShanghai, and Chongqing), and two mostly self-governing[15] special administrative regions (SARs), Hong Kong and Macau. Its capital city is Beijing.[16] The PRC also claims as a 23rd province the island of Taiwan, which is controlled by the Government of the Republic of China (ROC). This claim of Taiwan is controversial and related to the complex political status of Taiwan and the unresolved Chinese Civil War."

#2:
"Dorincard: Blogger Dorin C is a stamp and postcard fanatic, and luckily he's more than pleased to write prolifically and charmingly about his obsession. He has a particular bent for stamps with wild mammals on them, but his blog demonstrates an affinity for stamps of all forms and backgrounds, as long as they offer a special narrative that's worth sharing with his readers.

Postcards and stamps, mainly featuring mammals and birds but Dorincard also has other creations
and interests he likes to share.
His enthusiasm for Maximum cards (a postcard and a similar themed stamps sent through the
    postal system) shines through.
He shows how he gets the right card, stamp and postmark together.
Visiting his site you will also learn things about the natural world told with a dry sense of humour,
possibly with a play on words, and a unique style of headings.
Topical and informative both for the enthusiast and casual visitor.
