Did you think that your domestic partner (or wild partner), spouse, girlfriend, boyfriend
is the ONLY venomous mammal in the world?
You're wrong.
" It is one of the few venomous mammals; the male Platypus has a spur on the hind foot that delivers a venom capable of causing severe pain to humans."
"The Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) is a semi-aquatic mammal endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania. Together with the four species of echidna, it is one of the five extant species of monotremes, the only mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young. It is the sole living representative of its family (Ornithorhynchidae) and genus (Ornithorhynchus), though a number of related species have been found in the fossil record."

Ah, the animal made of leftover parts and pieces and ideas with a bit of a sting thrown in for good measure. I enjoyed your PFF Vlad post as well. The Romania postcards are wonderful. (My word verification here is "pothed"! Am not!)
I have always loved the platypus. Such an interesting, odd animal!
To tell you the truth, I believe LBJ was responsible for escalating the Vietnam War. That was an awful time in our history. I'm sure he had his reasons--probably some of them top secret to this day.
However, his support of Civil rights in a country which celebrates the freedom of all men, means a lot to me. This is something I did not know about him.
I was very young when President Kennedy was assassinated. I still vividly remember watching the news announcement by Walter Cronite.
What a way to become president of the United States. It must have been a crushing load for him.
I think I would have liked to have met hm.
And all men have their faults, and make mistakes. (grin)
I think "platypus" is a cute name, but that is not a cute animal.
Very strange animal, but the Australia fauna is unique. Happy PFF.
Well, I've learnt something today! I'm sure I'll find it useful next time I meet a platypus.
Dorin,
I haven't forgotten the comment you left about collaboration, and I will indeed consider it. The USPS just announced their stamp program for 2011, and although I can't recall if there's any animals involved, but I will keep you in mind.
I have heard of a platypus - but guess have never seen one or given one much thought. Cool to read about, though. The world is so full of so many things!!! Carol
Happy PFF! I like who I am married to!
Is the plural of platypus platypi? platypa? or platypusses?
Great post - I did not know about that poison barb. Interesting.
once again a fascinating post - i too had heard of the duck-billed platypus, but had no idea he was so dangerously armed! happy PFF!
That is a neat postcard!
