From the heart of Liechtenstein? No, from Lichtenstein's Hartebeest (Alcelaphus lichtensteinii). Not a wildebeest. WWF maximum cards/ maxicards/ dorincards about Mozambic.

This is a set with controversial issues. Why is the upper left image showing a far-away animal? What's this about - Big Sky Montana? The sky occupies most of the image.
Or, it can be the photographer's artistic choice to show us a perspective of that habitat, leaving the animal in the background. The cloudy sky over the African savannah...or something.

"Lichtenstein's Hartebeest (Alcelaphus lichtensteinii)[2] is a savannah and floodplain dwelling antelope found in southern Central Africa. By some, this species is classified as Sigmoceros lichtensteinii."

No, we're not talking about the country Liechtenstein here.

  1. I like the sense of freedom in the far-away shot. Such beautiful animals.

  3. Perhaps no huge zoom lens at hand although I too tend to be mesmerised by sky and have to make a concious effort not to include too much in my photographs.

  4. I think the distant shot with all the clouds is the most attractive, though it doesn't show the animal very well.

  5. Our BIG SKY is not the same, Dorin. Ours is - well - Bigger! Nice cards as usual.

  6. Those are beautiful animals. I recognize the name "Maputo" on the postmark - are the animals in Mozambique? With Hannah over there now, I am relearning some about Africa even though it has been eons since I studied any geography! If I could recall all that I used to know, I would be a smart old lady!! 7. Another one here that likes the wide open sky. Wildebeest live on the open plain and I think this shows it nicely, controversial or not. :)

  8. Howdy Dorin
    Happy PFF to you .
    Fabulous cards all !
I have an uncle who use to go to Africa once a year with a friend and they came back with some really great images .
Wish I could get him to share ,thanks for the motivation to try again :)
The sky shot reminds me of many of my camera shots ,all too often I get distracted by the shapes of the clouds above and miss out on the images below .
Have a truly great rest of the weekend.
    Until next time
    Happy Trails

  9. Darn I thought you were talking about that tiny country. The stamp collecting boyfriend and I made a detour from our Swiss journey just to go there and buy stamps.

  10. I like that first picture...the vastness of the sky and the background shows just how small we animals are!

  11. The big sky picture is nice, cool, etc. I like it, too, from the photographic art perspective.
My point is that the WWF maximum cards are supposed to focus on the educational and taxonomic perspective, rather than the artistic one. :)
Show me, WWF, a representative, conclusive, defining image for that animal species.
Other than that, if all we care about is the photographic art, then...the SKY is the limit! :)
